Selective Pallet Racking

Selective pallet racking gives you direct access to every pallet, in any order. It’s the most widely used warehouse storage system in Australia and for good reason: each pallet sits in its own bay, accessible by forklift from the aisle, with no need to move other stock to reach what you need.

It’s suited to operations that store a wide variety of SKUs, need regular access to stock, or want a system that can grow and adapt alongside the business. Absolute Storage Systems designs, supplies and installs selective racking across Australia, fully configured to your floor plan and forklift type.

Overview

What Is Selective Pallet Racking?

Selective racking consists of upright frames and horizontal beams that create individual bays, one pallet position per slot. Because no pallet sits behind another, your forklift can access any bay directly, without relocating stock to get to what you need.

This makes it the right system when product variety is high or stock turns over frequently. Businesses storing large volumes of a single product line, where maximum density matters more than individual access, are usually better suited to drive-in or double deep racking instead.

Why choose us

Selective racking looks straightforward, but getting the bay sizing, beam levels and load ratings right is what determines whether the system works for years or creates bottlenecks. Absolute Storage Systems has been specifying and installing selective racking since 1991.

  • Fully configurable layout – Bay widths, beam heights and aisle widths are designed around your specific floor plan and forklift type.
  • AS4084:2023 compliant – All systems supplied and installed in line with current Australian racking standards.
  • Scalable as you grow – Add bays, raise beam levels or reconfigure the system as your inventory and operations evolve.
  • Supply, install and support – One team handles design, supply, installation and ongoing inspections.
  • Award-winning supplier relationships – Seven-time “Distributor of the Year” recognition reflects the strength of the brands and components behind every system we install.

How it works

Step One: Consultation

We assess your pallet sizes, stock turnover and aisle widths to confirm selective racking is the right fit.

Step Two: Custom Design

We design bay sizing, beam levels and load ratings around your specific floor plan and forklift type.

Step Three: Installation

Professionally installed in line with AS4084:2023, ready to load from day one.

Step Four: Testing & Compliance

We check load signage, beam locking and frame stability before handover.

Step Five: Ongoing Support

We provide racking audits, maintenance and reconfiguration as your stock or layout changes.

Why Selective Pallet Racking Is Essential for Optimising Warehouse Workflow

For warehouses handling a wide range of products, the ability to reach any pallet without moving others is what keeps picking fast and accurate. Selective racking delivers that accessibility while still making proper use of vertical space.

  • Direct access to every pallet – No need to shift stock to reach what you need, reducing handling time and damage.
  • Supports high SKU counts – Suited to warehouses storing a wide variety of products rather than bulk single-product stock.
  • Improve inventory accuracy – Clear visibility of every pallet position makes stock counts and rotation simpler to manage.
  • Increase storage capacity – Makes proper use of vertical space compared to floor stacking, without sacrificing accessibility.
  • Maintain a safe environment – Correctly engineered and installed racking reduces the risk of instability or collapse.

Selective racking is the right system for most general-purpose warehouses, and the right starting point if
you’re not yet sure which configuration suits your stock. Our team can assess your current setup or design a new system from scratch, contact us to get started.

FAQs

What makes selective racking different from drive-in or double deep racking?

Selective racking gives direct, independent access to every pallet. Drive-in and double deep systems increase storage density but require moving stock in a set order to reach pallets at the back.

Yes. Beam heights and bay widths are configured to your specific pallet dimensions and load weights, not a fixed standard.

Yes. It’s a modular system, so bays can be added, removed or adjusted as your stock profile or warehouse layout changes.

Regular inspections for damage, loose bolts and correct load signage. We recommend a racking audit at least every 12 months, in line with AS4084:2023.
